Register to compete for best gumbo today

Laissez les bons temps rouler pour l’égalité. I hope all of my readers are enjoying the last hours of a long weekend with family and friends over the Thanksgiving holiday. I am making a pot of turkey gumbo with leftovers which reminds me that now is a good time to get the word out to fans of the TEP Gumbo Contest.

Over the last few months, 12 teams registered to compete in the TEP Gumbo Contest presented by Hilton Memphis on February 19, 2017. This means that only 4 spaces remain for gumbo teams in the contest.

Tennessee Equality Project is excited to announce that this year’s competition will feature a special award for best vegetarian or vegan gumbo judged by special guest Chef Justin Fox Burks of The Chubby Vegetarian. He and his wife Amy Lawrence recently published their second cookbook, The Chubby Vegetarian (Learn more about Justin at this link). Vegan and vegetarian cooks: fire up your stove, perfect your gumbo and register your team for what is sure to be a heated contest.

A separate 5-Judge panel will judge all types of gumbo for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Judge’s Choice contest. All gumbos will also be eligible for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the People’s Choice contest.

Follow these three steps to register your team for the contest:

  1. Review the rules of the contest.
  2. Complete the 2017 TEP Gumbo Contest Team Entry Form.
  3. Pay Registration Fee of $25 (includes 3 tickets for your team) at the Brown Paper Tickets page.

The contest continues to accept sponsorships for the contest. TEP Gumbo Contest sponsors reach a diverse audience of LGBTQ people, their families and their allies. Learn all the details at this link.
